For awhile now, we've been contemplating leaving Twitter. Over a year ago, we joined the fledgling Bluesky service, which offers a very similar experience to Twitter, but without all the baggage. They recently enabled posting of video clips, which was one reason why many were holding off on using it as their pervy daily driver.

We also joined Mastodon early-on, which is a loose federation of independent servers. It has a more personal feel, especially when you select a server run by someone who shares your interests. Our Mastodon home is on Rubber.social - check it out!

But, we remained on Twitter. With over 8,500 followers, and some posts getting hundreds of likes, it didn't seem right to throw that away. But a lot of people saw the writing on the wall, as Twitter became more and more a political tool for its owner, and trolls and bots abounded.

Whatever you think of the mercurial billionaire's politics, a recent change to Twitter's Terms of Service made staying there untenable. On November 15th, the new rules allowed Twitter to train generative AI models using all your posts.

RubberZone had thousands of tweets, many featuring the commissioned work of artists who oppose the use of their art to train AI, and of course photos and videos of our performers and contributors. It wasn't a matter of individual choice - if we left our Tweets up, it would've meant dozens of other people's imagery being used to train AI models without their direct consent.

And so, on the 14th, we purged our account of thousands and thousands of tweets. All that remains is a placeholder directing people to our new location. We did make a full backup, however, and there will be a number of “greatest hits” and throwbacks posted to the new profile.

But, that new location is growing fast! New kinksters are coming in every day, and posting amazing, horny content. Maybe it should be called "Blue Balls" instead of "Blue Sky". It feels fresh, and fun, and engaging, like the early days of the original bird site. We've passed 500 followers in just a few days. It's a long way form 8,500, but the interaction with other kinksters is much higher per-follower than the old place, and we look forward to organically regaining our audience over time.
